Just recently, an LS Tutor, Kyle, shared a correspondence he had over email with his rising 7th grade student. This email reminded me how tutors become so much more than “another teacher” to our clients. When a student feels they have a cheerleader in their corner, their self confidence increases and interest in school ignites. Often, our tutoring goes beyond the one hour in-person sessions in order to create meaningful relationships. This is why we do what we do….
The email to Kyle from the student read:
Kyle responded:
As a former principal and 2003 Maryland Middle School Math Teacher of the Year for the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Kyle fully understands the challenges that young person’s experience learning middle and high school subjects. He feels it is important to build one’s confidence in the subject area through simple explanations of the given concepts, use real world examples to reinforce the skill, and praise for a job well done. Kyle has a BSW in Social Work from Howard University, MA in Counseling from the District of Columbia, a MA in Educational Leadership from Trinity College, and completed his PhD at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Educational Leadership.
Connecting with students is what tutoring is all about. All our tutors invest in creating a personal relationship with their students. To work with Kyle or another LS Tutor this summer, contact us today!
